The Sorrentine Peninsula

The Sorrentine Peninsula

The peninsula was the destination of famous travellers since the seventeenth century and before that it was the place chosen from the ancient Romans to build their villas. The Sorrentine Peninsula is a triumph of colors and tastes, of bays and breathtaking views that dominate the sea. There are also many types of seaside resorts for all needs.

Pompeii

Pompeii

On a rocky tableland formed by an ancient eruption stands the city of Pompeii that, due to the eruption of the Vesuvius in 79 A.C., was buried under 60 feet of ash and pumice. The city can be actually visited still today thanks to such catastrophic event and the subsequent state of preservation. Between the end of the VII century and first half of the VI century B.C., the first walls
were built, delimitating an area of around 63 hectares. Towards the end of the V century B.C., during the Samnite era, the urban development of Pompeii was started; during the year 80, it became a Roman colony with the name of Cornelia Veneria Pompeianorum. The city has returned many examples of public buildings, ( the Forum with the Capitolium, the Basilica, the administrative facilities, the buildings dedicated to the imperial cult, the macellum, the thermae, the theatres and amphiteathre) and private ( the Casa del Fauno, Casa del Poeta Tragico, la Casa del Menandro, la Casa dei Casti Amanti, la Villa dei Misteri) that contribute to the definition of the ancient city’s physiognomy, both its artistic aspects and those connected with the everyday life).

Herculaneum

Herculaneum

The legendary foundation of Hercolanum is ascribed to Dionysius of Halicarnassus to Heracles, as he was returning from Spain. It covered a 20 hectares surface, for a population of around 4000 inhabitants. From the first half of the IV century B.C., the urban setting was characterized by three axis and five hinges, not completely excavated. During the Augustan age many public buildings were built, like the theatre, the Basilica di M. Nonio Balbo, the aqueduct, the public mountain network and the castella aquarum, the temples of the Sacred Area, the Suburban Thermae, the Central Thermae and the Gymnasium. During the earthquake of 62 A.C., Vespasian financed the restoration of the so-called Basilica and the Magna Mater temple. Unlike Pompeii, in 79 B.C., the city was covered by a 20 meters flood of pyroclastic mud, that allowed the perfect preservation of organic materials (plants, textiles, wood etc…).

Naples

Naples

Naples, a reality out of the ordinary. Some good reasons to explore the city: art, music, shows, delicious dishes, secret places. The ideal spot for who searches for new stimuli and emotions.

The island of Capri

The island of Capri

The blue island, a prolongation of the Sorrentine Peninsula, has inspired writers, poets and directors that have chosen the island for their films. The combination of nature and culture, across a sea that varies from shades of blue to turquoise, make of Capri a destination not to miss.

The Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast

Positano is 36 kilometers of paradise away from Vietri sul Mare. Fourteen spots in total, each with its traditions and pecularities, worth visiting at least once in a lifetime. The places, immersed in a charming scenery, have in common a crystal blue sea, wild nature, maiolic dome churches and houses clunged to the rocks. The coast takes its name from Amalfi, since it is positioned in
the center, and due to the town’s historical role during the centuries. In the IX century the town, with the rest of the Marine Republics, influenced the Mediterranean’s future. The Dome with its Paradiso Cloister, the Basilica del Crocifisso and the precious Carta d’Amalfi are the main attractions of the place. The itinerary that starts from Positano with its narrow streets, the clothes
boutiques and the beaches, and that then passes through Furore’s Fjord, the Grotte dello Smeraldo at Conca dei Marini, the square in Atrani and the steps in Raito, without mentioning Ravello and the other pearls of the coast, is a continuous of emotions, a journey to discover.
