Villa Murat was built in the 17th century. Situated in the village of Annunziata, it belonged originally to the gentlmen Della Noce who bought various farms in Massa Lubrense. At the end of the ‘700’s, it was bought by the Rossi Family, originally from Amalfi, and as a result it was known as Villa Rossi for a long time.
In the October of 1808, Andrea Rossi welcomed, for a short while, Gioacchino Murat who, having just become King of Naples, decided to proceed with his first military action: conquering and recapturing Capri from the hands of the English. Here, in front of the Blue Island, n the 17th October of the same year, Sir Hudson Lowe agreed to surrender the island to Murat. Lowe then continued to embelish the pages of history, notably the incarceration of Napoleon on Saint Helena. As a result of these various ancient scenes from the history pages of Villa Rossi, it has become known as Villa Murat.
It then passed into the hands of the Guerini Family until it again changed hands and is now in the proprietorship of the Sersale Family, as one will see inscribed on the front of the villa.
Today, Villa Murat has been restored under the caring eye of local entrepreneur, Raffaele Esposito, who ensured the particular character of the villa was maintained.
With the precise intent of conserving and giving value to every piece of history, Raffaele Esposito decided to call the villa, Villa Murat – the abode overlooking Capri, and to create a place exclusively for classy events and luxury vacations, whilst respecting the beauty and harmony of this location.
