Villa Murat - La dimora su Capri
The Gardens

The Gardens

In an ideal atmosphere, where the blue of the sea and the sky merge and Capri and Ischia lie somewhere between, the gardens of Villa Murat in Massa Lubrense offer many enchanting opportunities where one feels in complete harmony with Nature and Life.

In an open area, furnished with wrought-iron tables and chairs, hammocs and rocking-chairs, the villa garden is the perfect place to relax and revive oneself with walks amongst the age-old arbour and rare botanics, typical of the Mediterranean region.
Amongst this, one can admire a centuries-old Mastic, or discover the Strawberry Tree (Arbutus unendo), which Pliny the Elder said of it:  “ I can’t only eat one”, referring to the flavour of its fruit.  Unmissable are the pines, cypresses, and acorn trees.  Lest one not forget the hibiscus and variety of other typical Mediterranean flowers.
At the entrance to the residence is a 100 year old olive tree, famous for its shape which resembles a volcano.

The Villa Murat garden is further enriched with paths which provide incredible views of the hills and the village of Annunziata, in particular one can spy the ancient Tower of Toledo which dominates the entrance to Marina della Lobra.
The towers one sees along the coast are typical of the area and the Lubrense territory and formed a fortified defensive against the Saracen invasions.
A good example of these fortifications is Torre Turbolo, these days called Torre Capece Minutolo, in the piazza of Annunziata, not far from Villa Murat.

An exceptional setting for memorable events, English weddings and classical concerts, the villa garden provides the magic to render unforgettable every aspect of an occasion.

The villa's gardens are like an open air lounge, equipped with wrought iron tables and chairs, hammocks and swings, the ideal place to relax and be revitalised with walks among ancient species of trees and rare plants which are typically Mediterranean.

Among these are the admirable centuries-old mastic tree with its contorted structure or the strawberry tree, which Pliny the Older called "ne mangio uno solo" (Arbutus unedo - I'll only eat one) because of the special succulence of its fruit. Also to be admired are pines, cypresses, and holm-oaks, besides the hibiscus and many other types of typical Mediterranean plants.
Among the other plants, a centuries-old olive tree at the entrance to the villa stands out because of its volcano-like shape.

The garden of Villa Murat is enriched further by its paths which give a wide view of the hill and the village of Annunziata; in particular, one can see the ancient Toledo Tower, which dominates the small harbour of Marina della Lobra.
The watchtowers are a common feature of the local environment and were built for the defence of the population and clergy during the Saracen invasions.
A marvellous example of these fortifications is the Turbolo Tower in the village square of Annunziata not far from Villa Murat.

An exceptional setting for memorable events, English weddings and classical concerts, the villa's garden is a small paradise which creates a magical atmosphere for an unforgettable experience.
